Essay writing services are most definitely NOT ethical. Turning in an essay written by another person is CHEATING. Putting your name on a paper you didn’t writing is LYING. And you will get caught. I’m a high school teacher and I can tell you we’ve got access to awesome, high-tech tools for catching knock offs and fakes. Don’t believe me? Check out Grammarly’s Plagiarism Checker or Turnitin’s fake essay detector. They’re easy to use and they flag suspicious writing instantly.
The fact is, these “essay-writing services” basically spin out the same basic essays over and over again, even though they claim to make each essay unique. Do you think you’re the first kid to put off her Great Gatsby essay until the last minute, only to contact one of these websites in a panic? And do you think these folks pull the all-nighter that you neglected to in order to produce an elegant, one-of-a kind paper that your teacher will post on the bulletin board. Think again!
Funny story: I went on to one of these service’s websites the other day, and they had a fancy chat system set up so I could talk to a nice representative. I typed in, “Isn’t using your service cheating?” A person named Lucy immediately responded, “You don’t have to use our service if you do not choose to”. I then replied, “But if I did choose to use your service and put my name at the top and turned it in to my teacher, wouldn’t that be lying?”, to which I received radio silence. And it’s a shame because I was really starting to like Lucy.
The bottom line is, using essay-writing services are unethical and you will get busted and there will be tears. The good news is there are plenty of great online tools and essay-writing software (not to mention, great teachers) that will guide you through mastering a skill that will serve you well throughout your lifetime. Learning to write in a structured and proficient way isn’t easy, but neither is algebra, rocket science, filleting a whole fish or salsa dancing. But once you’ve got it, you’ve got for good. Do it the right way, sonny boy!
